The popular children’s book “The Composer is Dead” will come to life on The Pavilion’s Main Stage Wednesday, July 19, 2017. Children and adults will go on a literary journey with the Houston Symphony to investigate who killed the famed composer. Tickets for the 8 p.m. performance are $20 for reserved orchestra seating and the lawn and mezzanine are free. Gates open at 6:30 p.m.
This hilarious tale, with music by Nathaniel Stookey and text by Lemony Snicket, is a welcomed opportunity to introduce young audiences to the various instrumental components of an orchestra. Jason Seber will be conducting the Houston Symphony as Damon Gupton, who is best known for his acting parts in Criminal Minds, Bates Motel, La La Land and The Divide, narrates the text of the story. To make the evening even sweeter, Fidelity Investments will be giving out free ice cream for the first 2,500 guests starting at 6:30 p.m.

Pre-performance activities begin at 6:30 p.m. in the North Plaza. Children and parents can visit The Pavilion Partners Arts & Crafts Booth and Instrument Petting Zoo as well as activities by Fogo de Chão Brazilian Steakhouse, Lone Star College and Woodforest National Bank. Guests also can register-to-win Tommy Bahama’s “Best Seats in the House” and participate in Fidelity’s Seat Exchange.
At the symphony, guests are welcome to have a picnic in their seat or on the hill and lawn chairs are provided for free! Keep in mind that beverages cannot be brought into The Pavilion and picnics must also comply with The Pavilion’s bag size restriction and/or be in original packaging. Preferred parking is available in the on-site Town Center Garage, located along Six Pines Drive. Parking is $10 per vehicle for this and most performing arts events. Tickets for on-site parking can be purchased in advance at all Ticketmaster locations and The Pavilion Box Office. Guests also may park in any of the five free parking lots on the southwest side of The Pavilion. The free, color-coded lots are connected to The Pavilion by corresponding pathways with signs leading across The Waterway.
