Where Storytime Meets Song: Houston Grand Opera Brings Storybook Opera to The Woodlands

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS – Families in The Woodlands can experience the magic of opera through storytelling this year as Houston Grand Opera’s Storybook Opera program returns through a partnership with The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and The Woodlands Children’s Museum.

The interactive series introduces young audiences to opera through engaging story time performances and opportunities to meet professional opera singers. Designed for children and families, the events blend music, storytelling and educational experiences that make opera accessible and fun for all ages.

Throughout the year, Storybook Opera performances will feature a variety of titles tied to seasonal celebrations and cultural events. In addition to story time performances, select dates will offer “Meet an Opera Singer” sessions where families can interact with Houston Grand Opera performers and learn more about the art of opera.

The series kicked off at The Woodlands Children Museum on Monday, March 9th.

  • Wednesday, May 6, 11 a.m.Storybook Opera presents “Hansel and Gretel” during Children’s Book Week

  • Wednesday, July 8, 11 a.m.Storybook Opera presents “World Cup Women” in celebration of the FIFA World Cup Tournament
  • Wednesday, July 29, 11 a.m. – Meet an Opera Singer
  • Wednesday, September 9, 11 a.m.Storybook Opera presents “Agua, Aguita and Fuego, Fuegito,” a bilingual storytime in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month
  • Wednesday, September 23, 11 a.m. – Meet an Opera Singer
  • Wednesday, October 21, 11 a.m.Storybook Opera presents “Opera Cat” in recognition of World Opera Day on October 25
  • Wednesday, October 28, 11 a.m. – Meet an Opera Singer
  • Wednesday, November 11, 11 a.m.Storybook Opera featuring “Eyes That Kiss in the Corners” or a new title
  • Wednesday, December 2, 11 a.m. – Meet an Opera Singer
