The Pavilion Donates 104 Arts Books to Honor the Birthday of Namesake Cynthia Woods Mitchell

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS – In keeping with The Pavilion’s mission of enhancing an appreciation for the arts, The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion is celebrating the legacy of its namesake with the donation of 104 arts-related books in honor of her 104th birthday.

To celebrate, The Pavilion team took 104 brand-new books into the community, placing them in Little Free Libraries throughout The Woodlands and surrounding areas so that children and families could discover, enjoy and share them with others. Additional books were donated to The Woodlands Children’s Museum, Ms. Boni’s Dance and Performing Arts Studio and Market Street. Each book focuses on an aspect of the performing arts and features a special nameplate inside the front cover commemorating Mrs. Mitchell and her enduring legacy.

“Cynthia Woods Mitchell was a passionate advocate for the arts and education,” said Jeff Young, President and CEO of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. “Bringing these books directly into our community is a meaningful way to celebrate her birthday and honor her belief that everyone should have access to the arts and education. We hope these books inspire curiosity, creativity and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.”

Cynthia Woods Mitchell, wife of The Woodlands developer George Mitchell, was a passionate supporter of the arts and education, with a particular love for the performing arts. She had a true passion for bringing people closer to the arts and breaking down the barriers of unfamiliarity that can sometimes surround classical music and other performing arts.

Her vision became a reality when The Pavilion opened in April 1990. Since then, The Pavilion has continued to honor her legacy through educational outreach programs, funding for artists and arts educators, free community events and high-quality arts entertainment that make the arts accessible to the community and beyond.

By placing these books throughout Little Free Libraries in the community, The Pavilion hopes to carry Mrs. Mitchell’s love of the arts and education beyond its stages and into the hands of families throughout the community.
