THE PAVILION PARTNERS AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS TO AREA STUDENTS
The Pavilion Partners, the official volunteer organization for The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, awarded $66,000 in fine arts scholarships for the 2011-12 academic year. Twenty new scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors and 38 renewal scholarships were given to students who are committed to a fine arts major in college.
Scholarships are based upon talent and academic performance of students majoring in the fine arts disciplines of dance, instrumental music, theatre arts, visual/graphic arts, or vocal music. Scholarships are available to students in Conroe, Klein, Magnolia, Montgomery, Spring, Tomball and Willis school districts, MacArthur and Carver High Schools in Aldine ISD and private schools within each district’s boundaries.
First-time recipients of the scholarship were awarded $1,000 with the exception of eight students who received $2,000 for having the highest combined scores for academics and talent in each fine arts category. The awards were presented to the new recipients at The Pavilion Partners Scholarship Reception held May 9 at The Pavilion.
The Pavilion Partners also gives students an opportunity to renew their scholarships after the first year of college if they continue to major in the fine arts. Renewal scholarships are evaluated on current academic achievement, letters of recommendation and a personal letter or essay.
The Pavilion Partners is an integral part of The Pavilion and its educational and fundraising programs. The Pavilion Partners Fine Arts Scholarship committee has awarded over $400,000 in scholarships since its launch in 1998. In addition to scholarships and fund-raisers, Partners also provides volunteers for performances and programs at The Pavilion.
