The Pavilion Partners, the official volunteer organization of The Center for the Performing Arts at The Woodlands, home of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, raised more than $104,000 at the organization’s 10th Annual Wine Dinner & Auction held March 30 at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands. Of the money raised, approximately $53,000 was generated from the live auction with net proceeds benefiting The Pavilion Partners Fine Arts Scholarship Program. The remaining net proceeds, approximately $52,000 generated from the dinner, bid board and silent auction, benefits The Pavilion’s educational outreach programs and performing arts events.
With 184 guests in attendance, the live auction featured a selection of wine-related items and leisure packages, including rare wines, trips to Napa, Las Vegas and Cabo San Lucas, a gourmet backyard feast for 20 and an exclusive wine cellar dinner for 10. The live auction began with the sale of two beautiful pastel drawings by 2007 scholarship winner Caroline Dignes. The evening also included a special musical performance by five-time scholarship recipient Michael Krueger, a graduate of the University of Houston.
The 10th Annual Wine Dinner & Auction honorees included founding members of the event, Nancy Battle, Nell Belanger, Sylvia Caracio and Suzanne Ellis. They were honored for their generous support of the arts, The Pavilion and the entire community. All four women founded and organized the annual Wine Dinner to help raise funds for fine arts scholarships. The honorees were recognized at the event where Wine Dinner Committee Co-Chairman Randy Lowry announced that a permanent Founders Scholarship would be awarded in their honor.
“This year’s Wine Dinner was once again a huge success,” Lowry said. “We honored its founders, Nancy Battle, Nell Belanger, Sylvia Caracio and Suzanne Ellis. Without their vision and leadership, this event would not have become the huge success it has, providing more than $200,000 in scholarships for area students majoring in the fine arts.”
In 2007, The Pavilion Partners awarded $62,500 in scholarships to 33 graduating high school seniors from 15 local high schools and 17 renewal scholarships to recipients studying fine arts in college. Scholarships are awarded to students in the following categories: vocal music, instrumental music, theatre arts, dance, visual arts and computer graphic arts. The awards, based on talent and academic performance, are presented each spring.
“We would like to thank Northern Trust for their generous sponsorship of the evening’s wines provided by O’Brien Estate,” Lowry said. “We also want to express our gratitude to everyone who donated the various auction items and who attended this phenomenal event.”
