The Woodlands, TX – The Pavilion Partners, the official volunteer organization of The Center for the Performing Arts at The Woodlands, home of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, awards more than 25 scholarships annually to graduating high school seniors and renewal scholarship recipients majoring in or intending to major in the Fine Arts. These areas of study include vocal or instrumental music, theatre arts, graphic arts, visual arts and dance. The application deadline for the 2007 Pavilion Partners Scholarship Program is Feb. 28.
Scholarships, awarded to students based on talent and academic performance, are available to students in Conroe, Klein, Magnolia, Spring, Tomball, and Willis school districts, McArthur and Carver high schools in Aldine ISD and private schools within each district’s boundaries. Scholarship applications are available at counselors' offices, career centers or Fine Arts instructors at eligible high schools, as well as by request at firstname.lastname@example.org. Past recipients were sent application packets notifying them of renewal requirements.
After meeting the application deadline, students are scheduled for auditions at The Pavilion during the first week of April. Scholarship winners are determined by mid-May and receive their scholarship awards at each school’s senior awards ceremony.
Most of the scholarships awarded are for $1,000; however, three special scholarships are awarded to high school students receiving the highest combined score for academics and talent. The Nancy Bock Memorial and Vince Caracio scholarships honor each individual’s commitment to the arts. Special scholarships are awarded to renewal scholarship recipients that received the highest combined score. The Lois A. Hurt Scholarship recognizes Lois’ dedication to The Pavilion Partners Scholarship Committee and the Casey & Nancy Kosh Scholarship honors his commitment to the scholarship program over the years.
Each year, Partners bestows a special scholarship in the name of individuals who have made a special commitment to The Pavilion during the year. The 2007 Pavilion Partners Scholarship honors Jacque and Lloyd Everson of The Woodlands.
In 2006, The Pavilion Partners awarded $38,500 in scholarships to 20 graduating high school seniors from eight local high schools and 12 renewal scholarships to recipients currently studying fine arts at various universities. Since its inception, The Pavilion Partners has awarded more than $200,000 in scholarships to students studying the arts.
The Pavilion Partners, launched in 1998, is an important part of The Pavilion and its educational programs. In addition to the awarding of scholarships, Partners supports The Pavilion fund raising for the performing arts and educational outreach programs.
