The Woodlands, TX – Join the Houston Symphony as they “Blast Off!” at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion June 9 at 7:30 p.m. Thomas Wilkins leads the Symphony and audience on a wonderful space odyssey filled with classical favorites and scores from two of the most popular space movies of the 20th century.
Wilkins, who was recently named music director of the Omaha Symphony, brings high energy and enthusiasm to audiences of all ages. He has conducted symphonies throughout the United States, including Dallas, Baltimore, Houston, Grand Rapids, New Jersey, San Antonio and Oregon. A native of Norfolk, VA, Wilkins earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Shenandoah Conservatory and a Master of Music degree in Orchestral Conducting from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.
Under Wilkins’ baton, the Symphony performs theme music from “Star Trek VII” and “Star Wars.” The evening also features Strauss’ Fanfare from “Thus Spake Zarathustra,” Opus 30, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, and Sousa’s “Hands Across the Sea.” These and other works transform the evening into an “out of this world” experience.
