The Woodlands, TX – Approximately 4,000 students are expected to attend the annual Musical Scores educational outreach program at The Center for the Performing Arts at The Woodlands, home of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. The event takes place from 10 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. on May 9. Twenty-four schools from nine school districts plan to attend this 12th annual event. For a complete list of participating districts and schools, see below. Musical Scores primarily serves “at-risk,” underprivileged middle school students who earn the opportunity to attend a special event and concert at The Pavilion by displaying model behavior and achieving specific scholastic goals. Personnel from each participating school negotiate an agreement with each student whereby he or she earns points for scholastic progress and achievement. Points are earned for such things as reading books, raising test scores, improving attendance or displaying positive behavior. When the students reach their goal, thus achieving their “musical score,” they are designated as VIPs and Super Achievers. As a reward, they are treated to a free performance and lunch at The Pavilion. The students also receive complimentary Musical Scores T-shirts for their achievement.

Musical Scores begins at 10 a.m. on May 9 with “Exceptional Student” awards and introduction of the master of ceremonies, Jean Donatto. Following the awards, one of the greatest pitchers of all time, Roger Clemens, delivers a special message to the students about how to succeed in life and the importance of education. Clemens has pitched for some of the most legendary teams in baseball including the Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees and Houston Astros. Immediately following Clemens, the students enjoy non-stop entertainment by Mayhem Poets, a performance poetry-rap group, and Illstyle & Peace Productions, a dance-theatre company whose work fuses the moves and spirit of hip-hop with a variety of other performance disciplines.

Musical Scores is generously sponsored by ARAMARK Sports & Entertainment, CB&I, Chevron Phillips, Chick-fil-A, Continental Airlines, official airline of The Pavilion, Entergy, H-E-B, Hewitt Associates, Huntsman Corporation, Liberty Mutual, Mr. & Mrs. George Lindahl, The John P.
