Begin your family’s Fourth of July holiday with a bang at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion July 3 at 8 p.m. This FREE annual Star-Spangled Salute features a wide array of patriotic favorites led by Principal Pops Conductor Michael Krajewski, along with narration by former Houston Astros player and manager Larry Dierker. Gates open at 6:30 p.m., so arrive early to enjoy the festivities.
Enjoy the traditional sounds of the “Star-Spangled Banner,” “The Original Ragtime Band” and “Orange Blossom Special.” Dierker narrates such classics as “Casey at the Bat” and “God Bless America.” Have your family join in during the “Texas Sing-Along Medley” and salute the servicemen and women of America with an emotional tribute to each branch of the armed forces. For a finalé the kids will love, Krajewski conducts Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture,” complete with cannon blasts from atop the hill.
Krajewski returns to The Pavilion for another year of patriotic festivities. Krajewski is in demand as a guest conductor for symphonies across the country, including Boston, Oregon, San Diego, Sacramento and San Jose, among others. With his enthusiasm and delightful sense of humor, July 3 promises to be an evening of laughter and great entertainment.
Since its inception in 1990, the Star-Spangled Salute has been generously sponsored by The Woodlands Development Company (TWDC), developer of The Woodlands.
“The Woodlands Development Company is proud to present this free concert for the 18th consecutive year,” said Susan Vreeland-Wendt, director of marketing for TWDC. “It is a wonderful way to unite all of our residents in a bond of hometown spirit on the eve of Independence Day.”
Starting at 6:30 p.m., when the gates open, the North Plaza is filled with activities for the entire family. Children can meet Uncle Sam and have their picture taken with Puffy Pine Cone while parents participate in the South County 4th of July Silent Auction. Proceeds from the silent auction benefit the South County 4th of July Committee, producers of the 4th of July Parade, as well as other community charitable organizations. Parents also can register-to-win Tommy Bahama’s “Best Seats in the House.” New this year, concertgoers can bring donation items for the relief of U.S. soldiers. Collection barrels will be available at the Star-Spangled Salute. To see a wish list, click here. Join us for these and other festivities before the main event.
