Students from Conroe Independent School District are scheduled to attend a concert with the world-renowned Houston Symphony for Fine Arts Education Day: A David Dewhurst Symphony Explorer Concert at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion May 23 at 10:30 a.m. Approximately 5,600 and teachers from CISD will attend the event.
The David Dewhurst Symphony Explorer Concerts is a curriculum-focused program that examines orchestral music as it relates to the world. This year’s program, Water Music, led by Associate Conductor Robert Franz, explores the weather through orchestral music. Students will hear selections by Handel, Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Mozart and other influential composers.
Every fourth grade student in CISD will attend Fine Arts Education Day Wednesday at The Pavilion. This program is designed to introduce CISD fourth graders to orchestral music, giving them tools to discover the various instruments in band and orchestra. Sixth grade band and orchestra students from CISD also are invited to attend the event. For these students, the concert serves as inspiration for them to continue their studies in music. The program also helps students learn to listen actively and purposefully.
“Fine Arts Education Day gives CISD fourth graders the chance to see and hear an orchestra performance, many for the first time, so they are better informed when they get to fifth grade and have to choose between band, orchestra, choir and art,” said Cindy DuBois, director of marketing and education for The Pavilion. “The Houston Symphony musicians become role models for the students. Sometimes that’s all it takes to inspire a future Yo-Yo Ma or Hilary Hahn.”
Fine Arts Education Day is a FREE program produced by The Pavilion in conjunction with CISD and the Houston Symphony. The Pavilion Partners, the official volunteer organization of The Pavilion, is the primary sponsor of this event.
