Relax and enjoy the classical music of Mozart at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion for Music of Mozart Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. The world-renowned Houston Symphony, led by Hans Graf, takes the audience through the fast-paced, yet graceful tone of this classical music. Covered seating is $15 and uncovered seating is $10. Free lawn seating is sponsored by National Endowment for the Arts, The Wortham Foundation and KPMG, LLP.

The program includes Mozart’s Symphony No. 29 and Symphony No. 35, or “Haffner” symphony, and Ravel’s “Le Tombeau de Couperin.” The first piece of the evening is Symphony No. 29 which consists of four movements. It starts off gracefully and continues to a nervous dotted rhythm carrying the audience through different stages of Mozart’s tone. Symphony No. 35 has more of a sophisticated style with its charm and lovely strings.

Ravel’s “Le Tombeau de Couperin” is composed of six movements, each dedicated to a friend of Ravel’s who died in World War I. Although some would think this piece would be sad and depressing, Ravel actually made it lighthearted. His thought was that “the dead are sad enough, in their eternal silence.”
