The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion salutes America at the annual Star-Spangled Salute July 3 at 8 p.m. Wave your flag to the tune of patriotic compositions performed by the Houston Symphony and The Texas Tenors. This free concert is generously sponsored by The Woodlands Development Company. Picnics are welcome (no beverages), lawn chairs are available for free, and tickets are not required. Gates open at 6:30 p.m.

At Star-Spangled Salute, the world-renowned Houston Symphony performs a variety of classic American numbers from “Deep in the Heart of Texas” to the “1812 Overture.” Other selections include “Shenandoah,” “Grand Canyon Suite,” “Service Medley,” “My Way,” “The Liberty Bell,” “Nessun Dorma,” “Bandstand Boogie,” and Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.”

The vibrant vocals of The Texas Tenors also can be heard performing with the Houston Symphony. If anyone can attest to being an overnight success, it’s The Texas Tenors. Assembled just a year ago, The Tenors competed in, and placed in the top four acts of the 2009 season of “America’s Got Talent.” Texas natives Marcus Collins, JC Fisher and John Hagen make up the harmonious trio. Since their time on “America’s Got Talent,” The Texas Tenors have traveled across the country, serenading audiences everywhere and revealing their unique style. Self-described as “country roots with a classical sound,” the tenors’ style combines the often contrary genres.

Before the patriotic performance, enjoy the sounds of the barbershop quartet, “The Quorum,” in the Fidelity Investments Plaza. Starting at 6:30 p.m., children can meet Uncle Sam and Betsy Ross, have their picture taken with Puffy Pine Cone, dance and sing with Radio Disney, make red, white and blue bracelets with The Pavilion Partners and color pictures with Audi of America, official automobile of The Pavilion. Don’t forget to register to win Tommy Bahama’s “Best Seats in the House.” American flags, bubbles and hand-held fans also are available to guests enjoying the show, while supplies last.

Don’t miss the chance to enjoy great music, great company, and salute a great country at The Pavilion’s Star-Spangled Salute!
