HAT: 3,000 Fourth Graders from CISD Attending Fine Arts Education Day

WHEN: Tuesday, April 25, 11 a.m.-noon
The Center for the Performing Arts at The Woodlands, home of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, will host approximately 3,000 fourth graders from Conroe Independent School District for Fine Arts Education Day April 25 at 11 a.m. This program is designed to introduce fourth graders to orchestral music and to the various instruments in both band and orchestra before entering fifth grade and having to choose an elective.
The Sam Houston State University Symphony, under the direction of Carol Smith, Ph.D., professor of music and director of orchestral studies for the university's School of Music, will perform a classical program arranged just for the students. This program offers a curriculum connection for music classes.
Participating elementary schools include: Armstrong, Austin, Buckalew, Bush, Creighton, David, Deretchin, Ford, Galatas, Giesinger, Glen Loch, Hailey, Houser, Lamar, Milam, Oak Ridge, Reaves, Rice, Ride, Runyan, San Jacinto and Tough.
Fine Arts Education Day is sponsored by the Conroe Service League.
