Robert Franz gets the audience tapping its feet at the Houston Symphony’s Dancin’ with the Symphony June 10 at 8 p.m. It’s an enchanting evening under the stars at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. Tickets are $15 for orchestra seating. Mezzanine and lawn seating are free, sponsored in part by Houston Family Magazine. Tickets are not required for free seating. Gates open at 7 p.m.

The Houston Symphony cuts a rug performing some of the most famous dance-themed works of our time. The excitement begins with Three Dances from “The Bartered Bride,” followed by Suites from “Masquerade” and “Aladdin.” The music continues with “The Waltzing Cat” and Intermedio from “La Boda de Luis Alonso.”  Overture to “West Side Story,” Suite No. 2 from “Carmen” and Red Cape Tango from “Metropolis Symphony” keeps the audience on its feet until the impressive Medley from “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” ends the night.

Robert Franz, the conductor for Dancin’ with the Symphony, is considered to be one of the most talented conductors of his generation.  Critics hail his “masterly pace, emphasis and technical control” calling his conduction “viscerally thrilling.”  He has worked with some of today’s finest classical soloists including James Galway, Joshua Bell and Rachel Barton, as well as many of the top pop artists such as Chris Botti, Chaka Khan and Judy Collins.  He directs the Houston Symphony in a broad range of creative educational and family concerts and has created arts education programs for the Carolina Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, Louisville Orchestra, West End chamber Ensemble and the Winston-Salem Piedmont Triad Symphony.
