FROM THE DESK OF YOUR PARTNERS' PRESIDENT
In spite of everything, there are always reasons to give thanks. As we come to the end of another season here at The Pavilion, it has offered me a few moments between my hectic schedules to pause and reflect upon our wonderful group of volunteers. For many of you, this has been a very trying year. A season of change. So many of you have had to face layoffs at work, a child moving back home or a retirement plan that just put your dream a little out of reach. Others have come up to me while coupon shopping at the Randall’s and told me about taking care of an elderly parent and the escalating costs of living here in The Woodlands. I see a pattern here. With everyone that I have interacted with, it seems that there has been a common theme. 2011 has been a real challenge.
So, Ms. “Glass-is-always-half-full” has finally met her match. It’s been a rough year. I get it. But what I have found, is, that whatever curves life would throw my way, I could always make myself feel better by lending a helping hand to someone else. And it never took long to find something or someone with a need. Whether it was helping out the animal shelter, visiting the seniors in the nursing home or just getting involved with another group of people that needed an extra body to work: no problem, I will be there. Charity is contagious. It may not change the balance in your bank account, lessen the wrinkles on your face or make peace with your surly family members, but the payoffs will come back to you from the most unlikely places!
I challenge you to try it. Just make a commitment to go out and search for ways that you can give. And don’t look for it to come back to you. The “it” will come and find you and bring you so much more than you can imagine.
This Thanksgiving, Scout and I will be making our stops over to the nursing homes. I know many of these people by name. Scout remembers them too. Most of them won’t remember us, but they will be happy to have a smile, some light conversation, a cold nose and a wagging tail. It won’t cost me anything but my time, but to these folks, it is a welcome treat. Make a difference in someone’s life.
And speaking of making a difference in the lives of many, let me say that I give thanks for all of you. Your dedication to the many facets of the Pavilion where it takes the special touch of a Partner is so badly needed and very much appreciated by our community. A lot of the tasks are really yeoman’s work, but each one is critical to achieving the mission of “Bringing People and the Arts Together”. Without each one of you this place would not be the world class performing arts facility that it is. Without you, many children would not have the exposure to the visual and performing arts, save for watching videos in the classroom. Without you there may not be the inspiration for a few young minds to catch the glimpse of a spark of genius that give us another Leonard Bernstein, Walt Disney, or Julie Andrews. The Arts is kept alive only with the support and dedication of volunteers like you. And for that, I am very thankful. Happy Thanksgiving.

22nd ANNUAL GE RUN THRU THE WOODS
The 22nd Annual Thanksgiving Day Run Thru the Woods sponsored by GE will be held on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2011 at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. They are in need of 8-10 Partners to help out at the check-in tables between Race Parking and Packet Pick-up. The volunteer hours are 6:00 am – 8:00 am which will give you plenty of time to plan your holiday festivities. If you are interested in helping out, please reply to the email@example.com or by calling 281-210-1125. This is a fun event to volunteer for, so be sure to sign up today. Save the Date
Nov 20th - The Pavilion's Staff End of Year Party - Partners Event Staff who have worked their 8 events are invited as an extra thank you. Dinner will be served in the House of Blues beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will be lots of door prizes and each volunteer will receive a commemorative t-shirt. Guests, non-event staff spouses and children are not included in the invitation.
Dec. 4th - Partners Holiday Party will be held at Goose’s Acre from 6-8 p.m. Watch for an evite with more information. Drawings for the four $100 gift cards offered as incentives for working Children’s Festival will be made at the party. Don’t miss the fun!
A Big Thank You!
A big thank you goes to all our Partners volunteers. You have made an enormous contribution to the Center for the Performing Arts at The Pavilion. This season our volunteers have successfully staffed 26 contemporary events, 10 symphony and ballet performances and 8 additional events such as graduations. In addition we staffed 5 educational outreach programs including Musical Scores, Fine Arts Education Day, the 16th Annual Children’s Festival and Music in Motion. Partners successfully raised funds for scholarships and educational programs with our 13th Annual Wine Dinner, Santana Pre-concert Fundraiser and “Sic’em on Chicken Fry”. Partners were out in record numbers for the Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival and represented The Pavilion at a number of other community events.
The Pavilion appreciates our volunteers who are willing to help wherever they are needed whether it is making kites at the 16th Annual Children’s Festival, welcoming busloads of children for a school day at The Pavilion or enjoying a very warm summer evening during Buzzfest. You all are awesome!
14th Annual Partners Wine Dinner
It is time again for us to begin planning our Annual Wine Dinner & Auction which will be scheduled in March 2012. The dinner is an annual event that raises money for Partners Fine Arts Scholarships and The Pavilion’s educational programs. There will be a planning meeting on Monday, November 21 at 11:00 a.m. in The Pavilion’s conference room. The event will be chaired by Randy Lowry with Sol Sachs and Chardelle Adelson serving as co-chairmen. Please contact the Partners desk at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in participating on the committee.
The Partners nominating committee is now taking nominations for those interested in serving on the Partners Board of Directors. Any Partner in good standing is eligible for nomination. New directors will be elected in February 2012 at the annual meeting and serve a two-year term from March 1, 2012 thru February 28, 2014. The regular scheduled board meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at noon. Please forward the name and contact information of your nominee to the nominating committee chairman, Keith Ferry, at email@example.com.
