From the Desk of Your Partners’ President:
Happy 2013!
No more “coulda- woulda- shoulda…” for me!

I am one of those people that make at least one New Year’s resolution each year with the intent of keeping it.  Mine this year isn’t to show up at the gym more often, or lose some weight.  Although… those probably could go on my list.  Nope.  This year I am going to work on procrastination.

The only thing that helps you overcome procrastination is to actually do the thing you are procrastinating about. That’s it. You must take action. It may be unpleasant, but that’s why you’re procrastinating, isn’t it?  Action is the simplest way to avoid procrastination. Get up and throw yourself into the task. You must know your priorities and attack it.  Cross it off the “to do list.”

We should get up early, work hard, and avoid things that waste time in our lives. Yes, it is easier said than done, but to be honest, I would rather put off thinking about that problem until later.

How do you end procrastination? Just start. Don’t let “gathering information” or “planning” become your procrastination. Implement more structure into your life and you’ll get more done and you’ll have more freedom.

You can start to solve this problem by creating a clear set of personal philosophies that guide your life. Your personal philosophies are the core foundation of your success and will guide you towards a life well lived. The most successful people I know all have their own personal philosophies, whether they know it or not.  Make it easy on yourself by writing yours down. These rules for living will help you kick procrastination to the curb and will improve your time management because the list will identify what is important to you.

With respect to your volunteer work, write down some realistic goals.Plan out how much time and talent that you can genuinely afford to volunteer.  How many organizations can you volunteer with and not spread yourself too thin?  Are there friends that you have thought would be perfect for a volunteer committee but you never got around to asking them?  Or in my case, my husband will raise an eyebrow and smirk “you’re not volunteering again, are you?”

Our new season is starting early this year, so don’t procrastinate. Sign up for another season as a Pavilion Partner today!  Join a new committee. Plan out your schedule and come help out at the symphony concerts. And, The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival needs help from April 11th through the 14th. There is so much opportunity if you can find the time.

Organize. Commit. Carpediem!
