EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH > Supporting Fine Arts Students

The Pavilion enjoys a long-standing relationship with The University of Houston Moore's School of Music. Annually, The University sponsors the Texas Music Festival Orchestra. Music students from around the world send audition tapes, are selected, then come together in Houston to form an orchestra. These students not only work together, but also compete against each other throughout the Festival. The Festival culminates with a concert held at The Pavilion featuring the orchestra and winners of the competition. Each winner receives a Cynthia Woods Mitchell Medal, as well as a cash award. This year's event was June 18, 2010.

The Pavilion Partners, the official volunteer organization of The Pavilion, organizes, implements and awards fine arts scholarships to graduating high school seniors who plan to major in the Fine Arts. Partners also rewards renewal scholarships to previous recipients currently majoring in the Fine Arts.

| Fine Arts Education Day: A David Dewhurst Symphony Explorer Concert featuring the Houston Symphony is an educational program that focuses on all fourth grade students from Conroe Independent School District. The program was created for students to experience orchestral music and learn about the various instruments in both band and orchestra. It is the hope of the program to create role models for these young people and offer encouragement to take band or orchestra when they are in fifth grade. Also, sixth grade band and orchestra students are invited to the concert, which serves as a reminder of where their studies in music can take them if they continue their pursuit of it in junior high school. The program helps students learn to listen actively and purposefully while giving them goals to strive for. |

Young Talent Spotlight is The Pavilion's ongoing effort to encourage the artists of tomorrow, local students and young "rising stars." They are given the opportunity to perform either on the Side Stage prior to most concerts in the Performing Arts Series, or on the Main Stage of The Pavilion, showcasing their talents in special programs designed for this purpose. These young performers range from dance troupes, chamber string orchestras and choirs to light jazz ensembles.

Music in Motion provides student musicians in Conroe Independent School District with hands-on opportunities to work with professional conductors and musicians. Due to new funding recently presented by The Woodlands Development Company, Morgan Stanley and General Growth Properties, The Pavilion will expand the program by bringing in high-profile clinicians and offering it to a larger number of students. The donation was given to The Pavilion in honor of Cynthia Woods Mitchell's commitment to the performing arts in our community. Music in Motion will make a meaningful difference in the lives of student musicians by giving them unique training experiences that impact the way they play music. |
