PARTNERS JUNE/JULY NEWSLETTER
News for June/July 2014
Happy 4th of July!
Thanks to all our volunteers for offering their time and talent to promote Partners’ mission of “Bringing People and the Arts Together.”
From the Desk of Your Partners President:
Hello fellow Partners,
I hope this newsletter finds you all well. As you know Partners is a fantastic organization that strives to help bring the community and the arts together. We are so blessed to have a wonderful venue like The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in our backyard to host great concerts and educational outreach events that achieve our mission of the arts in a community.
One of the ways we fund these educational events is our annual Pre-Concert Dinner & Fundraiser which this year will be held prior to the Lionel Richie Concert July 12. I am asking the Partners for help with some items for the event’s raffle games. For one raffle we are running an alcohol pull where guests will buy the chance to pull one bottle of alcohol to bring home with them. Through many gracious sponsors we have amassed a wide variety of wine over the last couple of months, but what we really need now is liquor, be it a $20 bottle of Gin to a $100 bottle of whiskey. We are aiming for around 50 bottles of liquor so any donations are welcomed.
Another way to help is through gift card donations for our other raffle game. These cards will be used as thank you gifts to guests who participate in the raffle and can be any gift card valued at any price. I am confident that with your help we will be able to make this great fundraiser even better. Also, there are still seats available for anyone interested in attending the event. Just go to The Pavilion’s website or contact Leslie Williams for details.
Once again, thank you for all that you do!
“All Night Long” – Partners Pre-Concert Dinner & Fundraiser will be held prior to the Lionel Richie with CeeLo Green concert Sat., July 12. We have two levels of tickets this year, the first level is $200 per person and include mezzanine seating at the concert and the second level is $250 per person and include orchestra seating at the concert, plus the dinner and VIP club pass.
The event will be held in the House of Blues Hospitality Tent at The Pavilion. Funds raised will benefit The Pavilion’s performing arts events and educational outreach programs. Guests may RSVP online by visiting www.woodlandscenter.org. Tickets are limited so make plans to attend!

The Pavilion Featured in “Billboard” Magazine- The Pavilion was featured in the June 21st issue of Billboard Magazine as the venue enters its 25th season of operation. Quoted in the article were Grant Mitchell, son of the late George Mitchell and Cynthia Woods Mitchell, and Pavilion president and CEO Jerry MacDonald. The article highlighted the Pavilion’s 25 seasons as well as its partnership with Live Nation. You can read the full article at www.woodlandscenter.org under news.
Recipes by Freda Thomas- By popular demand, Freda Thomas has shared some of her recipes that many enjoyed at the Partners New member Party. Not only is she a great cook, she also recently appeared on several episodes of the NBC drama Revolution along with Nathaniel Holt. What a talented member of Partners!
Preheat oven to 350. Mix together 2 cans of cherry pie filling and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice., Pour into a 9x13 glass casserole dish ( don’t use metal- it must be glass or ceramic otherwise your cherries will turn black). Melt one stick of butter and mix fork with one package of yellow cake mix; sprinkle over cherries. Bake for 40-50 minutes until golden brown. Serve cold or warm. Great with ice cream or cool whip.
Summer Berry Pecan Salad:
2cups of baby spinach
6 fresh strawberries, sliced
2 tablespoons sugared pecans (recipe below)
Layer spinach, berries and pecans; add another layer. Drizzle poppyseed dressing and toss to coat.
1 tablespoon butter
1 ½ chopped or halved pecans
¼ cup white sugar
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the pecans and stir to coat. Sauté the pecans until they are fragrant, about 1-2 minute (but not longer because they will burn). Sprinkle with sugar and continue stirring for about 5 minutes. The sugar will caramelize and coat the pecans. Remove from heat, pour onto parchment paper (spread out the pecans) and cool. Store in an airtight container until ready for use.
