EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH > Academic & Social Incentives
The Musical Scores program addresses "at-risk", low income, minority students in grades six through nine. Now serving over 5,400, Musical Scores reinforces and rewards positive school behavior.
This year Black Violin, Soul Street Dance Company, Rockets Launch Crew and guest speaker David Parker entertained students throughout the program.
Students and teachers negotiate an agreement where students must achieve specific goals such as academic accomplishments, improving attendance, raising test scores or modifying classroom behavior. Once the students have reached their goals, or "musical scores," they are rewarded with a free performance and lunch at The Pavilion. They are honored for their model behavior and encouraged to continue their growth. Along with the free performance and lunch, students also receive a free Musical Scores T-shirt. The Pavilion works with Carver Magnet High School graphic arts students to create the t-shirt artwork for Musical Scores. Students submit artwork for consideration as the featured design, which is chosen by The Pavilion's staff. The design competition allows students to learn something through their hard work and dedication. |

As a part of its educational initiatives, The Pavilion offers internship opportunities within the Marketing Department for high school and college students.
Interns are able to gain valuable experience in the entertainment industry while helping with the many events held at The Pavilion, including Houston Symphony concerts, Texas Music Festival Orchestra, and Fine Arts Education Day. Interns work on a variety of tasks such as writing press releases, marketing research, promoting performing arts events, working with The Pavilion Partners and assisting with special events. The focus of the internship is to prepare students for a future career in marketing, public relations and event planning. |

Hats Off to Reading Celebration is an event that promotes student literacy and a love of reading. The event is sponsored by the Reading Odyssey Committee, a partnership between Montgomery County Memorial Library System, Conroe ISD librarians, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School Library, Chick-Fil-A, Scholastic Books, and The Pavilion.
It is free and open to the public. Children are able to take a free book home and participate in fun activities such as a book walk, coloring contest, hat making and face painting. |
